Hi, I’m Nick—a school psychologist who has worked across multiple districts and charter schools in California. I created School Psych Insider to give parents, educators, and fellow school psychologists clear, honest, and practical information that’s often missing from traditional SPED resources.
Over the years, I’ve supported students from elementary through high school, completed hundreds of evaluations, provided counseling and ERMHS services, collaborated with IEP teams, and helped families navigate some extremely confusing situations. I’ve seen how overwhelming the special education system can be—especially when parents don’t know what questions to ask or what options they actually have.
This site exists to solve that problem.
Why I Built This Site
Because the SPED process should not feel like a mystery.
Parents deserve explanations that make sense.
School psychologists deserve support and community.
Students deserve adults who feel confident and informed.
If this site helps even one family or one struggling school psychologist feel more grounded, it’s worth it.
What I Do
What I Do
I break down complicated SPED topics into simple, understandable language:
- What an evaluation actually means
- How IEPs and ERMHS work in California
- How to prepare for meetings
- What happens behind the scenes in schools
- Red flags parents should watch for
- How to communicate effectively with teams
- How to avoid unnecessary conflict while still advocating strongly for your child
I also write honestly about the reality of being a school psychologist—burnout, caseloads, politics, agency work, and navigating tough school environments.
My goal is to help both parents and school psychs feel more confident, prepared, and supported.
My Approach
I believe in:
- Clear communication
- Transparency
- Respect
- Student-centered decision making
- Creating solutions instead of arguments
- Helping families understand their rights
- Supporting school psychs in staying grounded and empowered
In addition, I do offer 1:1 consultation options for parents who want help preparing for an IEP, understanding an evaluation, or navigating school challenges.
